Remove unwanted elements from websites

BlockIt lets you hide or remove banners, popups, and other distracting page elements yourself. Create a quick rule from HTML or refine it with precise conditions, and the extension applies it on later visits.

When standard filter lists leave distracting elements behind

A website may still show an ad block, persistent panel, or other element that generic filters do not cover. BlockIt lets you create your own rules for individual sites. Simple cases start with the element's HTML; more complex layouts can be matched by attributes, text, position, and surrounding elements.

Rules belong to users, not to a shared filter list

BlockIt takes a decentralized, personal approach: each user chooses which element to remove and how to identify it. Rules are stored locally in the browser instead of being published in a common list. Website developers do not receive a ready-made BlockIt rule set to tailor their pages against. This makes broad, targeted circumvention harder, although an individual rule may still need updating when a site changes its markup.

Block the exact element that bothers you

No syntax to memorize

You do not need to learn CSS selectors, XPath, or BlockIt rule syntax. Paste the element's HTML and choose which details matter; the extension helps assemble the rule.

Rules for difficult pages

The builder can describe characteristics that standard CSS selectors cannot express or express awkwardly: attribute and class counts, text inside an element, its position among siblings, and properties of its ancestors. BlockIt finds matching elements and blocks them.

Check before blocking

See how many elements on the page match your rule, then refine it so you do not remove something else by accident.

Hide or remove

Remove an element completely or hide it while preserving its space in the layout.

Your rules for each site

Create rules for your own needs, disable the ones you no longer want, and transfer settings with export and import.

Direct input for advanced users

If you already have an expression, enter a CSS selector, XPath expression, or BlockIt rule directly.
